The purpose of having the medical insurance services in Médica Sur is to guide and advise you on the steps to using them, and to facilitate the authorization of direct payment for services received in the hospital or the reimbursement should services not be permitted.

Entry Requirements
In order to better serve you, should you have a major medical expense policy of insurance under an agreement with Médica Sur hospital you must submit the following documents:

  • Valid insurance company card and/or policy number.
  • Official photo identification (IFE, passport, military ID or professional license).
  • In case of a scheduled medical procedure, submit valid authorization letter from your insurer.
  • Order for hospitalization or placement service.
  • Credit card, check or cash deposit.
  • Contract signing for provision of service and security.
  • Must notify of your entry to the call center of your insurance company.
  • In case of international patients request your entry papers at reception.
  • The above points are essential to begin the process of direct payment from your insurance company, in the failure to submit the required documentation you will need to cover the total expenses.

Medical Insurance Companies in partnership with Médica Sur

  • If the insurance company has an agreement with Médica Sur, we will report your admission through International Insurance Assistance and we will request a payment guarantee letter to cover your care. To perform this procedure it is essential to have a medical report of the patient’s health status upon admission to the hospital, which will then need to be given to the Office of Promotion of Services so it can be sent along as a copy of the your insurance card.
  • The Payment Guarantee Letter is the only document that can replace the payment of services when the patient leaves the hospital, as well as the doctor’s fee. These are issued by the insurance companies and should arrive by fax or e-mail at least 24 hours before patient discharge.
  • It is the responsibility of the patient to the beginning to inform their attending physician that they have international insurance, to see if they agree with their fees being covered in this way; since they will be responsible their fee receipts to the insurance companies or through the medical box along with a medical report. In case the physician does not accept payment through the insurance company, the patient must cover the fee and process them for reimbursement.
  • It is the responsibility of the patient’s family to get and submit the medical report of the patient at admission and at discharge from the hospital or any other times that the insurance company requires it and take it to the area of Promotion of Services to be sent.
  • It is important to note that the payment of the deductible should be done according to the dollar exchange rate at the time of admission and to the percentages indicated by the insurance company.
  • International insurance does not apply to the Emergency department (stay of less than 24 hrs.). Patients must cover the payment and then request reimbursement.

The payment guarantee letter should be addressed to Medica Sur and shall contain complete information on:

  • Maximum amount of coverage.
  • Coinsurance.
  • Deductible.
  • Coverage of medical fees
  • Payment terms.
  • Name and address of those requiring an invoice.
  • Name of the person who will receive payment documentation.
  • In addition the name and preferably the signature of the person at the insurance company who is providing us with this information.
  • Form and time of payment of services.
  • It is imperative that when the letter of guarantee of payment is received, it be to the satisfaction of Medica Sur and within the time specified, in order to accept payment through the insurance. Until this happens the patient will be considered as uninsured and be responsible of the payment of services.
